Have a look around the harbour
The town of Looe is divided into East &
West Looe by the estuary of the Looe river. Not only is it a popular family holiday resort
but also remains active year round as a working fishing port. In the past Looe was famous
as an exporter of copper and arsenic obtained from the mining areas to the north.
Sheltered from the prevailing South Westerly winds the harbour is rarely closed except in
extreme winter storms, so has often provided a safe haven for passing vessels during
gales. Perhaps because of this as well as the continued fishing industry Looe has a long
association with smuggling.

East Looe has a very popular sandy child
friendly beach just a short walk away from the narrow Cornish cobbled streets of the town,
steeped in history full of stories & legends of smugglers & fishing.
The British Shark Angling Club have the their headquarters here next to the busy working
fish market. Across the river West Looe has a different but no less attractive character
with fewer shops, but is equally reliant on the tourist trade to fill the many hotels
& guest houses. Often described as scenic the two areas of Looe maintain their own
magic, for visitors & residents alike, all year round. It is a particularly beautiful
area of Cornwall well know country, and even world-wide.

Transport communications are not bad for
Cornwall. With a regular train services to Liskeard (8 miles) connecting to main line
services for West Cornwall, London, & the North of England. St.Austell, Bodmin, &
the North Coast of Cornwall can be easily reached by car & train. The City of Plymouth
is only 25 miles away, with good train & bus connections year round. The area has
local bus service to Polperro, Liskeard & outlying villages, though more buses are
made available during the holiday season.
